Notes of Red Apple, Raspberry, Hibiscus

 

This coffee comes from the Nyamsheke District in Southern Rwanda. It is processed using the washed method and consists solely of the Red Bourbon variety, making it a classic example of a coffee from this region.

 

We’ve been buying and roasting Rwandan coffees for years and the constant increase in quality has been incredible.  Each year’s crop offers ever more layers of complexity, making it a prime East African origin for us.

 

This lot is named after the Gitwe washing station where it is processed.

 

A total of 800 smallholder farmers are delivering their coffee to this newly constructed quality-focused station where the coffee cherries are pulped right away, fermented for 8-12 hours, and then sundried on raised beds for 10-15 days.

 

The very high altitude, combined with the nutrient dense volcanic soils of the region, offer absolutely perfect conditions for growing coffee and the final cup proves it.

 

Expect complex layers of red apple, raspberry and hibiscus with a fantastic tea-like body.
